The Milton-Freewater Police Department announced on Thursday that it had arrested and charged a Milton-Freewater man with sexual abuse of juveniles following the execution of a search warrant. Police Chief Doug Boedigheimer said his department had been investigating the claims following allegations they had received concerning 59-year-old Cruz Gutierrez-Castillo.
“On June 7, 2017, an adult reported to the Milton-Freewater Police Department that two juveniles known to the adult had been possibly sexually abused by Gutierrez-Castillo,” Chief Boedigheimer’s statement read. “After an investigation by Milton-Freewater PD’s Detective, the case was submitted to the Umatilla District Attorney’s Office for review.”
According to the Chief, the Umatilla County District Attorney’s office presented the case to a Umatilla County Grand Jury. The Grand Jury returned two true bill indictments for first degree sexual abuse against Gutierrez-Castillo. He was arrested on Wednesday, August 30th at his home on SE 3rd Street, according to police. They also executed a search warrant on his home. However, police did not provide details of what they obtained during that search.
Gutierrez-Castillo is currently detained in the Umatilla County Jail under a $1,000,000 bond.
